Paper Goods

Jessica and I are actively working on our announcements and invitations. Dave and Jessica have come up with a wonderful theme and it’s my job to cost-optimize it.

Last night, we took a field trip to a stationary store and a store that specializes in unique presentations. I took notes in the form of sketches with dimensions.

We’re trying to fit all of the pieces together. We’re trying to make these ourselves (the hand-crafted look, not the cheaply-thrown-together look). Dave has offered his services and expertise, so now the stumbling block is us.

There are way more pieces to this puzzle than I would have expected going in, so we’ve set a few parameters for ourselves.

  • All envelopes involved (one mailing has three envleopes by itself!) must be standard stock envelopes. They have a method of ‘converting’ any stock into an envelope, but that is expensive.
  • All printed material printed solely in black and white. This allows us to utilize Dave’s printer.
  • All splashes of color to be added in the form of colored paper, ribbons, and other accessories.
  • No prefolded materials (save purchased envelopes).
  • All assembly is by hand.

I think I can optimize standard paper sizes to be used for all goods. Jessica fell in love with a particularly expensive brand, so I’m tempted to mimic it on one item.

I’m not the easiest one to work with, am I? Anyone want to help me fold and cut and assemble a hundred or so of these?

Last night, in a fit of panic, Jessica turned this task over to me. Victory is mine.

However all demos and ideas are going to be run by me first for approval before final printing.

I’d post a witty response, but it’s true. Dave and I will slave away night and day making a lovely offering and it can be rejected with a simple wave of the hand and a ‘Nah’.

Doesn’t seem fair, does it?
