Buying the Perfect Wedding Dress

I don’t have my dress yet! Yes I know, everyone says you have plenty of time with a little over 6 month to go but really if you’re familiar with the whole process it’s more like. “YOU DON’T HAVE YOUR DRESS YET?!” Let me explain.

I need to spend the time to search the world over for the perfect wedding dress. I know its only one day but it’s also only one day in my life that will be my wedding day so of course it has to be perfect. This means taking the Moms with me to try on dresses at probably every boutique in Dallas and beyond.

I then have to order and pay for the dress of my dreams which will then take 8 to 12 weeks to be delivered to the boutique from the maker.

There will then be a series of alterations and fittings. Each alteration could take a week to two in between fittings and I’m sure there will be 2 to 3 fittings with Alterations proceeding. So let’s say this will take a month at the most if I’m lucky.

Then 1 Month before the wedding I need to have my dress ready for my bridal portraits. This way the photographer will have time to get the Bridal Picture ready for the Reception.

If you add up the time above this could take 6 months, which means I should have already started. I’m sure everyone understands my panic now.

I’ve been so busy lately with so many other wedding and non wedding things that I don’t know when to find time for this. The lease on my car expires in a month and so now I desperately need to focus my time/energy on looking for a new one. Yes I know getting a new car is suppose to be fun but really right now with everything it’s just a hassle. I’m also considering taking summer school which scares me to death but I need to. Monday - Thursday nights after work from 5pm to 8pm, plus time to study.

I wish life could slow down for just a moment to be able to enjoy it and take it all in. This is such amazing time in our lives and I don’t want to miss any of it.

Jessica, you will find the perfect dress in plenty of time. I think your level of stress has come close to reaching its max and maybe taking a moment to breathe is what you need. It will all work out and you will look back on this crazy time and laugh. In the meantime, good luck with the planning and tell Jason hello. I love you both!

Jason Mevius (email | site) says:

Amanda, you incredibly underestimate Jessica. We aren’t even approaching max-stress levels yet. Not even close.

She’s going dress shopping this weekend (tradition says I can’t go — darn), so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

Hatches battened down - check
Shelter hardened against explosion - check

Ben (email) says:

wow, this thing is more touchy than I thought. I wasn’t even done, and it said, “Bitch please, you done.” and posted that.

Jason Mevius (email | site) says:

Yeah, it’s a touchy thing. Just like a bride wthout a dress..
